HCS Business Solutions introduces Mobotix to Laois

Having just launched FSMobile, a unique software application to the UK market, HCS Business Solutions has unveiled yet another pioneering product, Mobotix, a leading Hi-Resolution security camera system.

Recently acclaimed as Mamut Platinum Partners, the accolades on the HCS curriculum vitae keep growing as the Waterford based IT company has been accredited as Advanced Mobotix Partners (AMP). As partners, the HCS team is qualified to provide consultancy and installation services for Mobotix camera solutions.

In a climate where more and more emphasis is placed on security and data gathering, massive advancements have been made in security camera systems. In fact, CCTV or “closed circuit television” is now old technology and cameras all over the world are rapidly being replaced with “Hi-Res” megapixel cameras.

The advantages of Mobotix HiRes camera technology are many fold;

· Cameras record 30 times more detail than CCTV cameras. Often fewer cameras are needed to cover the same area.
· Cameras record the full image all of the time. So even if the camera is zoomed in on a particular area of interest, the entire view is still being recorded.
· Cameras can be managed individually with an internet browser or in multiples with management software which is included at no extra cost.
· Cameras can be accessed remotely easily because they are effectively computers themselves. Access can be quickly setup from home PCs, smartphones, iPhones and PDA’s also.

One such local authority which was immediately able to experience the benefits of the Mobotix system was Laois County Council.

According to Brendan Garry of Laois Water Treatment Plant there was a need to improve his current security system. “It was crucial that we were able to monitor new areas in the facility vulnerable to trespassers and theft. We wanted the capability to read number plates of vehicles entering the facility, the ability to monitor the cameras remotely and also I wanted to be alerted to any unauthorised activity outside of business hours.”

HCS was able to deliver the end product, Mobotix, and once the cameras and software were installed Brendan was impressed with the results. “The detail in the footage is excellent and being able to access it remotely with shortcuts on my iPhone or web browser couldn’t be simpler. By teaming up with HCS the peace of mind that comes with the installation has been invaluable.”

Dan Hegarty, Director with HCS Business Solutions was delighted with the outcome. “The objectives set out by Brendan and Laois Co. Council were clear - improved and expanded security capabilities that could be monitored remotely and in real time.”

“Mobotix gives Brendan the resources to observe the facility as comprehensively as possible and has already led to considerable cost savings.”

As one of Ireland’s leading technology business solutions providers HCS Business Solutions offers proven solutions that are focused on driving productivity and efficiency within the SME and corporate business sectors.

The countdown to the 16th Guinness International Bluegrass Festival is underway!

Press Release – for immediate release
July 9th, 2010

After 15 years of banjo pickin', mandolin' pluckin', step dancin', fiddle playin', double bass clawin' sessions in the picturesque fishing village of Dunmore East – 2010 promises an even more jam packed, foot tappin’, barnstormin’ weekend for the 16th Guinness International Bluegrass Festival.

The countdown has begun to this summer's Guinness International Bluegrass Festival which takes place from August 26th to August 29th.

This is the 16th year in which roots music pilgrims will flock to Co. Waterford for the free, family orientated festival. All of the famous local hostelries will play host to over 50 free gigs throughout the weekend with local, national and international bands playing a variety of traditional and contemporary bluegrass music.

Last years headline stealing main act Jack Grace, aka The Martini Cowboy, will make a welcome return to Dunmore East. Last years performances on stage and on TV3’s Ireland AM reinforced Jack’s position as the King of Bluegrass with his gritty down home country style, with a twist of New York urban.

A band that is looking forward to the Dunmore Bluegrass experience for the first time is Wookalily, an all - female combo that refers to its own style as “Frockabilly woo-grass, putting the blues in bluegrass, the rock in rockabilly and the woo-factor into action.”

Wookalily has been playing together since 2009 and the girls received much acclaim at festivals such as the Belfast Nashville Songwriters Festival, The Ards International Guitar Festival and Belfast’s Open House Festival.

Apart from some of the biggest international names in bluegrass and country appearing at the 16th Guinness Dunmore East International Bluegrass Festival some well known Irish acts will take to the coastal stages, including Knotty Pine, Molly Hicks, Little Ass Birds, Blue Stack Mountain Boys and Bending The Strings amongst others.

Waterford’s very own Southern Welfare will be making their debut at the Guinness Festival this summer. Lovers of bluegrass can expect a selection of authentic bluegrass and gospel from artists like Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs and Ricky Skaggs.

Now in its 16th year the Dunmore East Bluegrass Festival has evolved over the years to meet the tastes of roots music fans. Mick Daly, the musical visionary, who founded the festival back in 1995 has seen a lot of genre defying acts take to the free stages of Dunmore East.

“It has been a really exciting journey for all of us involved. We are delighted with this year’s line up, particularly the return of the Martini Cowboy and the debut appearance of Wookalily. Both of these acts have strongly defined blues and bluegrass traits. However over the years we have seen everything from old time country, futuristic newgrass and rhythm and blues – that is the beauty of the festival!”

“The organic growth of the Festival has ensured that it is not only hardened bluegrass fans who can come along and enjoy themselves, but anyone who simply enjoys a good tune is guaranteed to have a great time.”

Bridgestone Guide singles out the Spinnaker Bar and Restaurant

The Spinnaker bar and restaurant in Dunmore East, Co. Waterford is proud to announce that it has been included in the latest Bridgestone Guide, one of the most respected guides to food and accommodation in Ireland.

Located in the picturesque fishing village the Spinnaker Bar has been a fashionable favourite amongst locals and visitors since Niall and Maria Edmondson opened the doors in 2005. The success of the restaurant can be attributed to a number of factors including efficient and friendly staff, a warm and relaxed atmosphere and above all good quality reasonably priced food.

The home page of the Spinnaker’s website states “The Spinnaker Bar - Best for Food, Service and Fun, Family Friendly”. What makes it even more genuine is that two of Ireland’s best regarded gourmands agree with it! And when those two people are John and Sally McKenna of the Bridgestone Guide you know you must be doing something right.

According to The Bridgestone Guide:

“The focus is firmly on food at Niall and Maria Edmondson’s popular Dunmore East bar, and in the peak of the summer it can be hard to get a table here.

Sensibly, the menu sticks to the kind of food you hanker for after a day on the waves: seafood chowder; crab claws in garlic butter; beer battered fish and chips; homemade lamb burger with relish and fries. Quality is high and it’s no wonder the place is such a hit with families.”

Not only has the Bridgestone Guide acknowledged the Spinnaker as an ideal family destination, Good Food Ireland also commended the restaurant.

This is a wonderful accolade for the Spinnaker according to proprietor Niall Edmondson. Speaking to B2B Communications Niall said “Good Food Ireland was founded in November 2006 and operates as a non profit Irish food tourism organisation. It is so important to be partnered with Good Food Ireland because it was founded in order to endorse and promote those committed to local food producers, the farmers, the fishermen and most importantly, for me, the hospitality sector.”

“By being recognised by Good Food Ireland it rubber stamps their approval of the Spinnaker’s dedication and commitment to providing quality fresh and locally sourced produce – the perfect ingredients for any dish.”

The Spinnaker bar boasts a heated beer garden to the rear of the establishment with full bar facilities. It features live music most evenings during the summer season and also caters for private parties and BBQ's.

The Spinnaker provides a regular programme of live entertainment such as regular live music in the main bar and a big screen showing all the main sporting events. There is also The Snug for a peaceful pint or a private party. There is an extensive Off-License, open during pub hours, offering a wide range of wines, beers and spirits at competitive prices.

For further information check out the Spinnaker website http://www.thespinnakerbar.com/ or call 051 383 133.

HCS Business Solutions to introduce unique product to European Market

HCS Business Solutions is set to introduce an innovative software application to the Northern European markets. FSMobile, a unique data collection application, will give remote or “mobile” staff the resources to complete their jobs more effectively.

The application, pioneered by Waterford company HCS Business Solutions, based in the Cleaboy Business Park, was recently launched to the UK market to great acclaim and plans are currently underway to launch FSMobile in Norway, Denmark, Germany, Holland and Sweden.

The premise of FSMobile is to act as a succinct and effective mobile communications system for staff that work remotely and exchange information on a regular basis. Using a Windows mobile handheld PDA or smart phone field staff can link into all information back in the office.

Neil Phelan, Director HCS Business Solution said “We have just returned from the UK where the product was officially launched to that market and introduced to a number of select potential partners. The feedback was excellent and we received a huge amount of interest from these UK companies.”

“The functionality of FSMobile is unparallel with anything else on the market. FSMobile can dramatically improve field sales and field service as accurate information is relayed wirelessly to one’s back office system, giving the client real time visibility and reporting on the status of every part of the business process.”

HCS Business Solutions was recently awarded Platinum status by Mamut Business Software, an accolade held by no other Irish or UK partner. This status has given HCS the impetus to initiate new and exciting software applications. Based on the success of FSMobile in the UK, HCS has plans to bring the product to Northern Europe.

Sean Hegarty, Director HCS, added “Without a doubt we were excited by this new product. It was only when we brought it to the UK market and received such a positive response that we looked at its further potential. As Platinum partners of Mamut, one of Europe’s leading exponents of business solutions, we are in the fortuitous position of being able to work closely with them and tap into their networks and established client base. Northern Europe is the next focus of our attention and we hope to roll out the marketing and distribution over the next several months.”

HCS has been working with Enterprise Ireland, the government agency responsible for the development and promotion of the indigenous business sector in Ireland, which has co-funded the development of FSMobile under the research and development fund.

Pauls’ Crafts get behind the Deise

As a bricklayer, Paul Whelan couldn’t escape the ill-effects of the downturn in the construction industry. So, with over 30 years experience in brick laying becoming dormant Paul returned to his childhood passion; hurling. Combining his creative skills and his love of caman and sliotair, Whelan’s Plaster Designs emerged from the mould.

Paul has designed two casts that capture the passion and determination of Waterford’s hurlers as they go head to head with Cork in next weekend’s Munster Hurling Final in Thurles. “The Wall” is a cast of a determined hurler breaking through a brick wall to achieve his goal and “The Hand” depicts a hurler’s hand gripping a sliotar.

A former pupil of Scoil Lorcain, Paul proudly held the school’s Long Puck title and has always followed the highs and lows of the Waterford Senior Hurling Team. When bricklaying work became more infrequent he focused his attention back to hurling to create these unique sporting casts.

According to Paul “The idea to combine art and sport was quite simple. I love hurling and capturing the passion, power and determination of the hurler in a cast seemed to make sense.”

“When Waterford Hurlers do well and progress to the latter stages of provincial and even national championships the whole county goes mad. Every man, woman and child gets behind the team. The casts capture that moment that every hurling supporter loves to see – our team having the belief and power to break through walls.”

Ciaran Cullen, Acting Chief Executive of Waterford City Enterprise Board which is backing the initiative through marketing mentoring (provided by B2B Communications) added “The concept presented by Paul is unique – the casts are distinctive and finished in the blue and white of the Deise. Paul was proactive in creating a product that will resonate with a large slice of the population. That is the type of enterprising spirit that we love to see alive and well in Waterford.”

“The Hand” and “The Wall” are available in outlets throughout Waterford including Ken McGrath Sports, Waterford Gift Gallery, Ryan’s Shoe Repair, Excel Promotions, Pet World and GAA clubs throughout the county. They are also available in all county colours upon request.

Home Instead Senior Care and Mulligan’s Pharmacy promote the importance of the PIP

Several years ago one of the market leaders in the pharmaceutical sector revealed that in emergency situations, many patients were unable to convey their medical history and conditions to emergency staff. In some cases this lack of information became an impediment to proper care.

As a result the Personal Information Pack (PIP) was devised with vulnerable populations in mind, such as older people, the majority of whom have medical conditions and also those with long-term illnesses, e.g. diabetes or asthma.

The PIP contains all relevant information, including a brief medical history, current medication, next of kin, donor status, doctor and allergies. It is stored in the refrigerator, a common location for emergency staff to check and the least likely place to be compromised by fire. A notice is also put beside the hall door signalling that a PIP is in the refrigerator and emergency personnel will look out for this.

Speaking to B2B Communications Danette Connolly of Home Instead Senior Care Waterford has been stressing the significance of the PIP in ensuring seniors receive the most appropriate care. “The PIP, when used correctly, is an invaluable aid for seniors to inform family and friends of their medical history and conditions, in case of an emergency.”

“The research conducted by Pfizer found that over half of children said their parents were on a prescription medicine but 77% did not know the name of the medicine. What is equally worrying was that 1 in 5 did not know the name of their parent’s doctor.”

“The PIP contains all of this crucial information about a patient and if the need arises for emergency services to be involved, they will have ready access to their medical history.”

In a joint promotion with Mulligan’s Pharmacy of Tramore, PIP’s will be available free and there will also be advice on hand from Home Instead personnel and Mulligans’ staff about the most effective ways to use the PIP.
Niall Mulligan, Pharmacist, Mulligans Pharmacy said “Any publicity that focuses the spotlight on the PIP is good publicity. Many of our customers are prescribed a wide range of medicines. In order to keep track of that history and to guarantee the best medical care when needed the PIP is crucial.”

PIP’s are available free of charge from Mulligans Pharmacy, Tramore and a Home Instead consultant will also be available to answer any queries in relation to medication safety. You can also pick up copy of “The Pensioners Handbook” – a guide to services to seniors in Ireland from Home Instead Senior Care or Mulligan’s Pharmacy of Tramore.

New Waterford Insurance Company “breaks away from the Pack”

With almost 700,000 Irish households owning a bicycle and more than 2% of all journeys being made by bicycle, a new initiative by two avid cyclists has been launched to ensure all cyclists are fully covered!

CycleSure.ie is Ireland’s only dedicated cycle insurance website and offers a level of cover that is flexible enough to suit individuals or groups, such as club cyclists, tri-athletes, leisure cyclists, mountain bikers, and families.

CycleSure is the brainchild of two Waterford businessmen and cycling enthusiasts, Brendan Mulhall and Shane Hamm. Brendan has over 20 years experience in the insurance industry working both in large insurance companies, multi agency intermediaries and on a self employed basis, whilst Shane has amassed valuable sales and business development experience and also spent seven years in the insurance industry.

According to Mulhall, “Cycling has made a phenomenal comeback in recent years due to sustainability, health factors and the hugely popular Government bike scheme. The premise of CycleSure is to ensure that the cyclist, regardless of the level they are at, can enjoy full insurance cover for their bikes, themselves and the public.”

Shane Hamm added “At present, the availability of cycle insurance is quite limited in Ireland. At CycleSure we will be the definitive source for cycle insurance for all cyclists - professional, amateur and leisure.”

Waterford City Council has also been active in promoting and encouraging cyclists to get out and about over the summer. According to Niall Kane, Senior Engineer, Waterford City Council, “Cycling is increasing in popularity as a way to quickly and easily get around the city. Waterford City Council is encouraging this by the provision of cycle lanes and dedicated cycle parking within the city, through the promotion of events such as Bike Week 2010 and through the publication of a cycling skills leaflet in association with CycleSure.”

As part of a wider insurance portfolio CycleSure will also supply a registration system for customers that acts as a means for stolen cycles to be returned to customers. The system will involve two labels being supplied with the insurance policy. One label will be a prominent label stating the bicycle has an invisible ID mark. This second label will include a registration number which can be read by the Garda Siochana, which notifies Cyclesure, which in turn notifies the bicycle’s rightful owner.

CycleSure will be exhibiting at the Phoenix Park in Dublin during Bike Week which takes place throughout Ireland from June 13th to June 20th and will also be making an appearance at the People’s Park in Waterford during Bike Week.

For more information about how CycleSure can get you and your bicycle covered visit http://www.cyclesure.ie/ or call 1800 85 55 57.

Ability Matters presents AED to Christ Church Cathedral

Christ Church Cathedral was recently presented with an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) by Ability Matters. While the Cathedral is primarily a place of worship it is also a major civic resource embracing artistic, cultural and ecumenical life in the city.

As an historic building and a very popular venue for concerts, recitals and exhibitions it contributes to the cultural tapestry of Waterford.

Experiencing a vast throughput of worshippers and visitors each week the Christ Church Cathedral committee was aware of the need for its staff to be proficient in AED and CPR.

Susan Grant, Tourism and Marketing Manager of Christ Church, said that the offer of an AED couldn’t have come at a more opportune time. “The committee had, for some time, been discussing acquiring an AED for the cathedral. When Ability Matters offered to supply us with an AED we were delighted to accept and were very grateful of the offer.”

“Although we hope there won’t be a need for it, the AED and the training we undertook with NAS Training Centre have given us the confidence and ability to respond to an emergency situation. All members of staff, clergy and some select vestry members are now trained.”

In Ireland approximately 10,000 people die each year from cardiovascular disease (CVD), coronary heart disease, stroke and other circulatory diseases. Where concentrated volumes of people work and gather each day, there is a heightened risk of one of those suffering from CVD.

For every minute that passes between onset of cardiac arrest and treatment, chances of survival are reduced by 10 percent. If a defibrillator is not used within 10 minutes, the victim's chances of survival are practically nil.

Susan added “Since the Cathedral’s refurbishment in 2006/2007, tourist figures have been steadily increasing, the audience numbers for music and art events has grown, all in addition to our weekly congregations. So it is crucial that we have trained staff and the proper equipment to deal with a situation that requires AED.”

Mr. Binman launches free recycling service to Waterford City and County

Mr. Binman, the multi award-winning waste recycling company, is leading the “green revolution” by offering the people of Waterford City and County a free recyclable collection service.

Joe Cleary of Mr Binman, one of the country’s most progressive and environmentally conscious waste management companies, was delighted to introduce this free service to Waterford City and County. According to Joe, this is a win – win situation for the people of Waterford. “It’s very simple; Waterford people are being charged by the Local Authorities to recycle by having to buy bin-tags or recycling bags. The cost of recycling in some areas is limiting households and that is why Mr. Binman has launched the “Free for all” recycling strategy”.

Last week it was announced Local Authority charges such as bin collections, commercial water provisions and car parks, may be subject to an increase of up to 21% from July, due to changes in VAT legislation. In contrast Mr. Binman is hoping to help drastically increase Waterford’s recycling levels by encouraging people to recycle for free.

Joe Cleary continued “Mr. Binman is cheaper than the Council services anyway but if a householder wants to just get their recycling collected by us, free of charge, then they will save up to €120 a year.”

He added “All households in the city and county can now avail of free recycling collections, even though they are not currently customers of Mr. Binman. By simply getting a special sticker and recycling bags from Mr Binman, your recycling is collected free of charge as part of Mr Binman’s collection run. It’s as straight forward as that.”

Householders can collect free stickers and recycling bags from Mr Binman’s stall at City Square, Waterford, by logging onto http://www.mrbinman.com/ or by calling the office on 051 643144.

Mr Binman is the current Repak Recycling Contractor of the Year and is constantly striving to increase the amount of recycling. The more material that is recycled, the less waste going to landfill which is better for this and future generations.

Joe Cleary said “The challenge for us all is to make small modifications in our day to day practises. Small but significant steps such as reducing, reusing and recycling our waste can make a big difference.”

Cleary added “By joining Mr. Binman’s Green Revolution we are all playing a small part in recycling our waste and because it’s free, we will all feel the benefit. If people like our recycling service, we have cheaper rates on the other bins too so they can try us for free and save money before making any decisions”.

Mr Binman is a family run waste and recycling company that employs over 150 people in the South East region.

Kel – Tech Engineering proud recipients of Supplier Excellence Award

Waterford manufacturing firm Kel-Tech Engineering was recently honoured with a Supplier Quality Excellence Award by Caterpillar Inc.

Based in the IDA Industrial Estate the company was founded by Waterford native Ray Breen in 1988 and today is regarded as one of Ireland’s leading manufacturing companies.

A large gathering of Waterford business leaders and local representatives heard the Deputy Mayor of Waterford, Cllr. Pat Hayes congratulate Kel-Tech Engineering on its recent achievement and added that it is reassuring to hear about Waterford companies accomplishing so much and heartening to see “the chink of light at the end of the economic tunnel is getting wider and wider.”

Chief Executive of Waterford Chamber of Commerce, Michael Garland added “We have seen some good news stories and unfortunately some bad news stories in Waterford recently, but the success of Kel-Tech Engineering is down to the hard work of Ray and his team. Waterford is going in the right direction and with everyone working together we will, in the future, be hearing about more companies enjoying the same success as Kel-Tech.”

In the last 20 years Kel-Tech Engineering has grown steadily, however not dissimilar to any industry or service, 2009 saw a tough operating climate and Kel-Tech, like most companies, had to adjust accordingly. However, the last few months have seen the company increase its database of clients and this growth and progress have been recognised by Caterpillar in awarding Kel-Tech with the Supplier Quality Excellence Process Certification – only the second recipient of this award in Ireland.

Ray Breen, Managing Director commented “We are extremely proud of our achievements here at Kel-Tech. This award acknowledges our strong values and ethical principles in conducting business and commitment to implementing a culture of “zero defects” in our operations.

It also recognises Kel-Tech’s achievements in the role of outstanding supplier to Caterpillar and only serves to underpin the fact that Kel-tech Engineering is committed to delivering the highest level of quality to our customers and distributors.

It will also allow us to explore new markets within the vast Caterpillar network.”

Having grown from a manufacturing company employing just 4 staff in 1988 to becoming a renowned and respected manufacturing company, employing over 50 employees and continuing to grow in 2010, Kel-Tech is the epitome of a local Waterford company that is succeeding on a national and international platform.
